At the trial of Carl Kehde for wilful murder of Thomas Powell coneluded*Jasl night, the evidence showed 1 that on July 2Bsfc Powell went home with a woman named- Lynch. wi*h whom. Kehde co. habited. Kehde on going home found the two together.. Turned Powell out, and went feo an hotel and got drunk. After an absence of one hour the jury retnrned a verdict of guilty of murder with a strong recemmendation to mercy on the ground of provocation. Judge Johnston, said he concurred in the recommendation, but he had no option but to sentence the prisoner to death. Prisoner was very firm throughout. Application was repeated without effect, and to-day. Drs. Turnbull, Deamer, Med* will, Powell, Hayes, Doyle, andFrankisb, ceased attendance at the hospital room in charge of medical cases. Dr Prins continues to act with Dr Campbell in surgical cases. Westpobt, September 4. M man named Daniel Sullivan was committed to gaol for two months or 25s fine, for lying across the rails in front of an approaching engine on the Mount Rochfbrt line. He said he did it for a lark.
