BONUS FOX GOLD-SAVING | APPARATUS. rinilE Provincial Council of Otago being I desirous of stimulating invention, and securing the uso of gold saving apparatus in connection with hydraulic mining adapted to the purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth ''more completely than any of tho machines or methods at present in use, has voted tho sum of £250, to be offered as a bonus for the invention of such an apparatus, subject to such competition and regulations as his Honor the Suporiutendcut may seem fit, Notice is-hereby given ii. accordance with tho vote of the Council, that plans and 'proposals fpr such an apparatus will be received for consideration, up till tho first day of August next ensuing. The, following particulars aro published for the ihformation of intended ex.iibitor? of plans. The plans and proposals will be submitted, to a body of judges, composed of experienced miners, and such other persons as his Honor the Superintendent may appoint, and in considering them the following points will bokopt in yiew : — 1. Tho cost of tho apparatus as it appears on the plan, and itsprobable cost and toar aud wear. 2. The readiness with which it can be secured in any part of a tail race, and be removed frprn pne part to anothor and again scoured. 3. Its adaptability to the different widths and falls of tail races used in dilferent districts ; tp the varying quantities ef water used either by cheicc er necessity for flushing tho same ; and to the different kinds of washdirt from which gold is ottained in the Province. Inventors aro expected to bo conversant with the machines and methods at present in use, and not to offer simple reproductions of the same. If, iv the opinion of the judges appointed any plan shall appear to be worthy of adoption by the miners in the Province, tho Government undertakes to furnish copies of the same to each of tho Mining Associations in the Province with full instructions as to inventions of the inventors, and the payment of the bonus will theu be determined in tho following manner, payment being due wituiu eight months from the date at =vhich the copies of the plans and instructions have been issuod to the various Mining Associations.
