THE TURCO-RUSSUN WAR. SINGAPOBK, August 17. Mukhtar Pasha remains on the defensive, and evacuated Kustenagi. Bombay, August 17. The left wing of Mehemet Pasha is making toward* Suliman Pasha, whose cavalry ia now beyond the Balkans. Melikoff has received reinforcements and has resumed offensive operations against Mukhtar Pasha. Ismail checks Tereukason. | London, August 16. The Agent-General telegraphs: The Russians have evacuated the Balkans I with heavy loss. A second Danube bridge has been completed and large reinforcemonts of Russians are crossing. Rustchuk is being bombarded. Fighting is going on at different points, but without any very important results. Mehemet' AH and Suliman Pasha are pushing on to effect a junction ; and the Russians, who have been reinforced, are advancing their centre and left wing. An important battle is expected. There hare been frightful massacres by Turks, without distinction of age or sex. . Revolted towns and villages have been burnt in every direction. Russian troops are suffering from fever and dysentery. The Turks are healthy.
