At the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Bench, to-day, it was decided, in a question asked by Mr Ollivier, acting for the Local Licensed Victuallers' Association, that no extra fee was required where an hotel had more than one bar. It is stated that a compromise has been effected with Kirchner and Slowman, who claimed compensation for non-fulfilment of contract made by the late Dr Featherstone with those gentlemen for the introduction into New Zealand- of 4000 German immigrants; The Colony is to ' pay Eircbener five hundred, and Slowmad three thousand pounds (exclusive of passage money for FitzrutJier immigrants) in full, of all demands. Slowmau's claim was £20,000. Napiek, June 39. The first of three libel cases, the proprietors of the Telegraph against the proprietors of the Hawkc* Bay Herald,
which lasted all day, resulted in a 7erdk-t for the plaiuiilT, one farthing damages. The Judge refused fo certify' for cost I.1 '. This case was that of Ales. Kennedy ; the other two, Newton and Kuowlea against the same defendants, will be heard tomorrow.
