THE INANGAHUA FERRY.
[tothr ewiob hunoabtta tihss.] Sib,— As tbo Road Board is paying, I am inforraod, £G 10s per \reok for the use of a boat to ferry passengers across the Inangahua river, I think travollor9 might reasonably expect their convenience a little better studied, A person coming to cross in the night tirao has to* nearly bellow his inside out before he can attract the attention of the boatman. Now this might be all very well of a fine summer's moonlight night, particularly if one (or rather two) was doing a pro* menade with an attractive young creature of tho opposite sex (I'm a He), but on a rainy night for a follow wet through to the bope to be kept shivering iv the cold,
irith not as much " cooey " in him as t irould frighten a hare off a meadow, its a ' hot coffee.'* I heard a good deal about [ fog horns and steam whistles for tho t ferry across the Left-Hand Branch, but I L don't hear of anybody going in for any i those loxroieslor the Beefton ferry. We I san't expect an electric or lime light of a { light at the ferry, but it ought to run— 1 lay a couple of dips— just to make dark- i aess, if not the boat, visible. Then again, , liow's a man to know where the ferry is, , sven in the day time, much less of a dark , night P 1 lam,&c, ; TBAMF. ; Beefton, June 12th, 1877. ,
