THE Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. FRIDAY,APRIL 20,1877.

TfEts great improvement which has taken place of late in the prospects of the Energetic Company, Murray Creek, has been the chief .topic of conversation in tnioiag circles during the past few days. The subject has now gro no. to be of interest beyond the circle of shareholders of that Company, for the discovery which Uas been made, while going far aa it unquestionably does to establish the permanence and future prosperity of the Company in question, also goes a great way towards solving an important problem in the future of the Murray Creek district. The Com" pany's shaft which is being put down on the reef has now reached a depth of something like fifty feet.. Stone has been carried all the way down, and as it deepens becomes more and more solid and well defined. At the present time the shaft measures seven feet in the direction of the width of the reef, without any indication of the proximity of the walls on either side;, 5b us proving the reef to be of extensive proportion, and we are informed that hardly a piece of stone from the shaft can be picked up that does not show gold freely. It will thus, be seen that the discovery, for such it may indeed be termed, not only bodes well for the i Energetic Company, but in like manner , fop the mines adjoining, and in fact the ' locality generally. It has long been said that our reefs working are yet in their ; infancy, and it is every day being made | more and more manifest that such is really the case. It is at least something of a confirmation of this that the deepest worked mines in the district are at the present time the most productive, and the best evidence of this is furnished in the case of the Hopeful, Welcome, Golden Fleece, and other, mines.
