THE SPORTS.
[TO THE EDITOR INANGAHOA. TIMES.j Sib,— lt is a surprising circumstance that bo attempt has been made by any ot the committees of our annual sports to erect something of the character of a grand stand. A very large sum of public money has been subscribed in Reefton at various times, and in some cases credit balances have remained after payiDg all expenses, but strange to ssy nobody haa thought of spending a few pounds in putting up a grand stand, which would do the double duty of protecting visitors from the heat of the sun and the severity of the weather, as well a» give them a view of the races. How is it that the sports are so poorly attended by ladies P— the reason is plain, because there is no place where they can gather out of the sun and enjoy a comfor able seat. The committee are standing in their own light, for I feel fully certain tbat the takings of the grand stand would quite cover the cost of its erection. I trust that the next sports committee will look into this matter* and see their way to remedy what is a- mo» important drawback to the success of oar sports. I am, Ac, Observes.
