REEFTON SPORTS.

[TO THB EDITOB I9AV44gU4. TIMES.] Sib,t-I see by your contemporary that the "Sports Committee " have once again issued j their programme for tbe annual St. Patrick's Day festivities, This means, I suppose, that we shall h*ve the same apology for amuse* ment that we have had in years past — the same arranging of events aaongst competitors, and tbe same "quiet undewt*ndings " 41 to who shall and who shall not win certain events. Z suppose also that we shall have a further visit to the district of that large class of thimble riggers, jerryrme-diddlers and others who manage to hang out a mysterious and questionable existence on their fleepings of the public on holiday occasions. This is all done under the playful delusion of providing the public with amusement. I think it is quite time that the public opened their eyes to such a farce, and instead of subsoribing their money to attract to tbe district a crowd of slippery, idle, and highly undesirable visitors-rrinstead of offering a premium for vagrancy— turned their liberality into some other and more deserving channel, they would deserve thanks instead of censure. I am, &c, 11 HUMBUG." Beefton, January 28rd, 1877.
