SCHOOL PRIZES
WINNERS AT THE BAY HIGH SCHOOL NEXT TERM The -prizes for the year’s work were presented at the Mercury Bay School on Friday, December 15. The year has been a successful one in many ways and the great amount of labour that has . been put into the grounds is beginning to show. A new shelter shed has. s>een built and with, assistance from parents, Mr Wotherspoon and the chldiren have dotie a great job. The grassed areas are well kept lawns. There is a first class cricket pitch and football field. Netting has been put round the tennis court and a rose garden b as been forced. A district high school will be established at Whitianga for the first term of the 1951 school year. Prize winners were:-— Dux of the school, Sonia Lee, First in class: Form 11, Brian Hughes; Form I, Judith Tunnicliffe; Standard IV, Sonia Lee; Standard 111, Carol Whitten; Standard 11, Ted Wotherspnon; Standard. I, Janet Whit-, ten; most improved pupil, boys, Neil Martin; girls, Dorothy Lee; spelling prize, Marion Russell and Sonia Lee, equal; tables prizes, Brian Hughes; character cup, boysj Grant Simpson; girls, Isabel Simpson; best all round sport, boys, Michael Jackman; girls, Fay Chaney; ping-pong champion, Fay Chaney; best gardens, Dale Peachey, Margaret Oxley and Patricia Edwards.
