NEW CHAIRMAN
HOSPITAL BOARD » ANNUAL MEETING HELD MR W. C. KENNEDY ELECTED Mr W. C. Kennedy was, at the annual meeting of the Thames Hospital Board held yesterday at Thames, elected chairman of the board. There were two nominations for the position of chairman, Messrs J. W. Danby and Mr Kennedy and upon a ballot being taken Mr- Kennedy was elected.
He had served upon the hospital board for a period of 35 years, said Mr W. C. Kennedy and, with the exception of six months when he was out of the Dominion, he had attended every meeting of the board. If the chairmanship carried any honour with it, and he thought it did, then he claimed that honour for he always travelled seme 70 miles to each meeting. He thanked the members for electing him. ’ * Mr Danby had given great service to the board over a long period and Mr Kennedy said that he expected to render similar service. Mr Danby /congratulated Mr Kennedy upon his election to the position of chaiiman of the board. Deputy-Chaiirmian Two nominations were received for the position of deputy-chairman of the board, Msesrs C. W. Parfitt and Mr J. W. Neate. Upon a ballot 'being taken Mr Neate was appointed to the position. The question of the appointment of an executive committee was the subject of considerable discussion. The chairman, Mr Kennedy, suggested that he be allowed to nominate an executive and the board could then deal wit(i the appointments at the next meeting. Mr Parfitt thought that it would be unwise to leave the, board without an executive committee until the February meeting. The executive committee should be appointed at once. Mrs G. Pinnock and Messrs J. W. Neate, C. W. Parfitt and J. W. Danby with the chairman were then elected as an executive committee. Other committees appointed were:— House committee: Mrs Pinnock, Messrs A. H. Sutton and J. H. Hudson. Paeroa committee: Mrs S. Wheeler and Mr T. A. Barrett. Thames committee: Mrs Pinnock, Messrs Danby,' Neate, Hudson and chairman. Coromandel representative: Mr H. V. Denize. Waihi committee: Mirs M. E. Williams and the chairman. Mr Danby had given much time and, over- a long period of 27 years, he had devoted .much energy in ,the service of the board and it was most appropriate, said Mr Kennedy, that the board should place upon record’ an expression of appreciation and recognition for what Mr Danby had done. Great service had also been given by Mr Edwin Edwards, Mr E. J. O’Loughlin and Mrs Drinkwater. Mr Kennedy moved that appreciation of services be recorded and that letters be written to them expressing the thanks of the board for the valuable assistance they had given the hospital board. The motion was duly carried.
