OFF TO KOREA

HIKUTAIA FAREWELL PRESENTATION MADE PRIVATE. H. A. MILNE LEAVES Hikutaia hall was crowded recently when residents of that district gathered there to bid farewell to Private H. A. (Shorty) Milne, a member of the K Force. Private Milne saw several years of service overseas during the last war and since then had taken up farming in the Maratoto valley, Hikutaia. Music for the function was provided by the Rhythm Troubadours. After a dainty supper was served by the ladies Private Milne was presented with a money belt and cheque from the residents of the district. In making this presentation Mr H. Morrison said that with it went the very good wishes of those present and he hoped that Shorty would soon

be back home again safe and well. Mr Morrison also expressed the wish that the Korean war would be of short duration.

A further presentation was made to Private Milne when on behalf of the Young Farmers’ Club the president, Mr N. Fenton, asked Shorty to accept from them all a cheque of £5, together with wishes for the best of luck and a safe return.

Replying Private Milne thanked both speakers for their kind words and everyone for their presence and gifts. He said he had enjoyed his short stay in Hikutaia and hoped to be soon back again. Cheers and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought the presentation to an end.
