DELIVERY DATES

UNCERT AIN POSITION CATCHMENT BOARD TRACTOR The problematical dates of deliveries of bulldozers and tractors has created a problem for the Hauraki Catchment Board at the October meeting of which, in Te Aroha, the chief engineer, Mr Geo. Davies, stated that information had now been received that the D 6 bulldozer would leave New York by ship on November 16, 1950. No word had yet been received of the exact delivery date of the Cletrac bulldozer and it was thought that since the waiting time had been so much for the machines it might be to the board’s advantage to wait now for the D 6 caterpillar tractor. At the most there can only be a few weeks difference in their delivery dates. A direction from the board as to what machine to accept under the present circumstances was now required, or as to what extra waiting time might be allowed on the delivery of the D 6 over that of the Cletrac. There was much discussion as to the relative suitability of each machine for the work of the board, members of which feared that if the first available machine was not secured the board might not be able to secure any.

The executive had been given power to purchase the D 6, said the actingchairman, Mr H. R. Thorp. The board was faced with a problem for the board might have to decide to take the first arrival, said Mr A. J. Carter.

There were certain disadvantages vzith the smaller machine, said Mr J. F. Mayn, who advocated the purchase of the more expensive machine which might be cheaper in the long run, thought it cost £lOOO more.

The meeting confirmed its previous resolution to leave the matter in the hands of the executive with power to act.
