DANGEROUS BEND
ROAD TO PATETONGA
REQUEST TO PLAINS COUNCIL
“The Patetonga branch of Federated Farmers wishes to draw the attention of your council to three dangerous bends a few miles north of the Torehape ford on the MorrinsvilleWaitakaruru road,” stated a letter from Mr O. M?. Caldwell, secretary of the branch, to the October meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. “Several of our members have experienced near accidents when havingto' pass oncoming traffic,” continued the letter. “The heavy traffic on this road during Peace cup matches proved that drivers from outside district have difficulty in negotiating these particular bad bends. As the contour of the land does not warrant these bends it is hard to understand for what purpose they were designed. Perhaps to stop a bolting horse by unseating its rider. As the rpad concerned is a main arterial road we would be pleased if your council would favourably consider removing the bends in question,” concluded the letter.
Cr. D. G. McMillan suggested playing the Peace cup matches at Ngatea. , The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, said there might be only one more Peace cup match on .the Plains. It was decided to reply that the * road would be improved when plant staff and money was available.
