FATE OF REMITS

BRANCHES NOT ADVISED FARMERS PROTEST MEETING OF PAEROA BRANCH That the Paeroa branch of Federated Farmers request the sub provincial council to see that results of remits which have been passed by sub province and .sent forward to province be made available to all branches and in particular to the branch responsible for the remit or remits, was the text of a remit from the Paeroa branch of Federated Farmers and the provincial secretary’s reply to the remit placed before the September meeting of the branch was as follows:— “What your brahch desires (and rightly) is now actually covered in so far as staff, time and other controlling factors will permit. “If there were any specific cases which your branch has in mind then please advise me and I shall have immediate investigation made,”. continued the privincial secretary. The letter concluded with the suggestion that the remit should be withdrawn. He objected to the suggestion that the remit be withdrawn, said Mr A. F. Johansen. An endeavour should be made to put into operation the pleasures which gave the information to branches, said Mr O. P. Liddell. If the necessary

machinery to make available the information, which branch members desired and were entitled to, existed, then he would agree to an alteration! in the remit if it could be satisfactorily altered. Upon the remit being re£d it was pointed out that it would be difficult to alter the remit which merely asked for information which the provincial secretary admitted the branch members were entitled to. - After remits reached Wellington it was of great importance that the fate of remits be reported to the branch originating the remit. Mr Liddell instanced- the important remit which had been forwarded to Wellington in July of 1949 and no one knew even in Auckland what had been the fate of the remit Mr J.E. Silcock, secretary of the Paeroa 'branch, supported the remit and urged' that the matter be taken up with the Northern Thames sub, provincial executive. The meeting resolved not to withdraw the remit and to bring the matter before the Northern Thames sub-provincial executive.
