ROAD GRANTS

DISAPPOINTED WITH VOTE COROMANDEL COUNTY AREA Grants provided for in the vote for road works were, according to a letter from the Ministry of Works addressed to the September meeting of the Coromandel County Council, as follows: — Fletcher’s bay-Port Jackson (retrospective from April 1, 19'50, and includes work already done) £1414; Whitianga, Simpson’s road, £1386 (£3 to £1); Whitianga, Kuaotunu road, £2247 (£3 to £1); Sandy bay-Stoney bay road, £lOOO i(free grant); Waikawau beach road, £615 (£3 for £1); new works, nil. Cr A. J. Denize asked for a copy of the council’s application for the grant for £5OOO to show the settlers concerned in the Sandy bay-Stoney bay project, who doubted that the council had applied for the £5OOO. Disappointment was expressed by councillors at the small amount of money made available. A resolution that the request of Cr Denize be acceded to was carried.
