FUNDS FOR INSTITUTE

PURIRI SOCIAL AFTERNOON ‘ TALK BY MRS CROPP To augment its funds, the Puriri Women’s Institute held a social afternoon recently, which was very successful.

The guest speaker was Mrs Cropp, who gave an instructive talk on her recent tour of the United. States, and Miss Phyllis Reed played two pianoforte solos. Mrs Cropp’s talk was illustrated by working ’model toys and other mementoes of her trip. Mrs McLiver, the president, presented Mrs Cropp with a spray and thanked her on behalf of members,

Afternoon tea was served, and the sales table, in the charge of Mrs L. Rowe and Mrs Edgecombe, did brisk business until all the goods were cleared. Mrs Beale won the competition for the parcel of groceries, and Mrs McGregor that for the fancy tea cosy.
