PEACE CUP
THAMES HOLD TROPHY
MATCH WITH TE AROHA (CHALLENGERS DOMINATE PLAY The first Peace Cup challenge Rugby match of the season was played at Thames on Saturday when the holder, Thames, defeated Te Aroha by six points to nil. Actually it appeared that Thames was lucky to hold the trophy as Te Aroha attacked throughout the game and held decided territorial advantage, there being no score a half-time. Thames points came well into the second spell when P. King, the Te Aroha fullback, failed to field a long bouncing kick, permitting Thames to rush play to the Te Aroha goal line
and from the ensuing scramble, following a scrum M. Hartnett scored right on the corner flag. M. Jacomb made a good attempt to add thd major points without success, The second try for Thames came when W. B. Davis kicked through to the Te Aroha line for Jacomb to race though to score well out. Jacomb was unable to secure a conversion. The game was ably controlled by \Mr L. E. Smith of Ngatea. Thames will play Matamata next Saturday in the Peace cup challenge series. TURUA WIN — 9 MATCH WITH THAMES B TEAM Played as a curtain-raiser to the Peace Cup match at Thames on Saturday, Turua defeated the Thames senior B team by 11 points to three. Turua points came from scores by G. Alach and R. Sanson while J. Crawford converted one try and kicked a penalty.
