MATCH ON THE DOMAIN

WIN FOR NETHERTON UNITED DEFEATED BY 24 TO 8 There was quite a good attendance on the Paeroa domain on Sunday last when the Netherton senior Rugby team met and defeated United seniors in a Paeroa, Rugby Football Union competition match which at times was fast, open and full of interest.

The United team played two promising juniors, S. Rangi and W. Hamson and had they been given a chance the score might have been considerably altered. Soakai of United opened up a gap in the Netherton defence and sent out a long pass to S. Rangi who kicked high but Beale found the line. R. Finlay attempted a long shot at goal from a | penalty awarded Netherton but the kick went wide.

Some exciting play followed when Bilkey broke away for United to kick too far and Beale reversed the movement but Burkhardt made a good run to send play into Netherton territory. Fast and open play followed in which Beale at fullback for, Netherton showed to advantage. A. McMillan sold a dummy and inpassed to start a promising movement which ended in a penalty being awarded to Netherton but Dickson failed with that kick.

S. Rangi flashed out after a long period of uninteresting play and took the ball .from United 25 to Netherton 25.

From a scrum Liddington seht the Netherton backs away and after considerable passing and sound tackling A. McMillan snapped up the ball and went over the line for Netherton.

United made a great effort to score and swept play from its twentyfive to the Netherton goal line where a great struggle took place but play was gradually pushed by the Netherton forwards back to the twentyfive, when Soakai for United kicked for the gap and W. Harrison racing through, scored, a nice try evening the score at three all. \

From a high kick A.. McMillan followed up and scored a try in a handy position, R. Dickson converting.

Netherton 8, United 3; N. Collier was the next to score for Netherton from a forward rush in which United became demoralised. R. Dickson converted. Netherton 13, United 3.

From a scrum near ’the Netherton goal line P. Gregson at half, cut clean through and scored, N. Thompson converting. Netherton 13, United 8.

Netherton backs showed enterprise and threw the, ball about with much effect, R. Dickson and McMillan handling well bdt the defence held. R. Dickson from a penalty on the side line kicked a nice goal and.immediately afterwards finished off a nipe passing movement for Netherton by scoring under the posts and adding the- major points. Netherton 21, United 8.

Bilkey went away in a lone run and was grassed close to Netherton’s goal line but no one was supporting and an opportunity was lost. R. Burkhardt, United fullback, was penalised 'for handling on the ground and Dickson goaled from a penalty making Netherton. 24, United 8. The teams were as follows: —

On the Paeroa domain on Sunday in a very interesting and fast game of football , the Paeroa railway team defeated Putaruru railway team by 26 points to 6. For Paeroa tries were scored by C. Wilson (2), P. Pennell (3), J. Wilson and W. McKain, Pennell converting one try and kicking a penalty goal. Putaruru’s points came from a try and a penalty goal. Mr A. T. Jones was referee.
