RULING SOUGHT
DISCRETIONARY POWER AMBULANCE OFFICERS INJURED FOOTBALL PLAYERS In view of the possibility of serious injury being suffered by players from time to time the Paeroa Rugby Football Union felt that some discretionary power should be vested in officers of the St. John Ambulance to go upon the field prior to the blowing of the whistle by a referee, stated a letter from the union to the Pae-
roa Rugby Referees’ Association. The letter quoted an instance where a player was struck heavily in the throat, his “Adam’s apple” being pushed in so that he could not breathe. Play progressed rapidly to the far end of th© field and the referee was not aware that the player had been injured. Had an officer of St. John Ambulance not rushed on the field the played could have choked to death before’ the referee became aware of his plight. The Paeroa Rugby union asked for a ruling from the referees’ association. The meeting approved of the letter sent the referees’ association and awaited the ruling of the association.
