THAT SAWDUST PIT

ACTION CRITICISED WRITING TO COUNCIL PAEROA RUGBY MEETING The action of the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby * Football Union in writing to the Paeroa Borough Council . complaining about the sawdust pit on the domain was criticised by Mr •G. G. Payne at the meeting of the management committee of the union on Monday night last. Mr Payne suggested to the meeting that the proper course for the committee to have adopted was to communicate with the officials of the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club and ask that body to attend to the replacing of the turf on that part of the . domain where a sawdust pit had (been made by the athletic club. The chairman, Mr W. F. Faber, asked whether each year it was the duty of the Rugby union to make endless requests to the athletic club to get the jumping pit filled in. Was it not the duty of the athletic club, immediately its season was over f to put the ground in order | Mr Faber stated he had approached [members of the athletic club arid nothing had been done after five weeks of negotiation. He thought the correct procedure had been adopted and as a result the Unsatisfactory position which had occured each year, might not occur again. Mr Payne asked whether at the end of the athletic season the Rugby union would be prepared to help in a joint working bee to put the ground in order. It Was explained by Mr Faber that quick action was needed and the job had to be done properly and the council was in a position to obtain the

neteessary turf. If the athletic club dug up the ground l it should restore the ground afterwards. The 'borough council had, as a result of the union’s letter, attended to the matter and had made a good job of restoring the turf to its original condition.
