Netherton:— The March meeting was the last meeting of the Netherto# club prior to its amalgamation and it was resolved that flu?’ telephone supervisor of the Post and Telegraph Department be invited to address th# April meeting. At the April meeting which was a meeting of the newly formed Netherton-Kerepehi club it wtfft decided to make a donation of £2O • towards the war memorial fund. The meeting further decided that Mr Allan C. Boulton of Paeroa be invited to ~ give an address on television or some associated subject. A very instruc- > tive address on bees and bee-keeping and the problems of the apiarist was . given by Mr Les Johnson of Netherton. Ngatea:— The report on the annual ball given by the club was read and considered, the report revealing that the function had . been a great success. An offer , by Mr A. M. Bell of Federated Farmers to screen moving pictures at a club meeting was accepted. j A decision to enter a team in tifSr debating contest was made and six club members intimated their inten- . tion to prepare for the event. Arrangements were made to hold a dance in April. Interesting films were shown by Mr Bell. Mr B. Thomas at the April meeting gave a report on the debating contest in which Patetonga defeated Ngatea by 37 points. Following a discussion on the advisability of arranging lectures to club members was decided to make out a list of, speakers to be during the year. Those named were a manager of a cheese factory, an accountant, a stock inspector, an automobile association officer and Mr H. H. Hicks of Turua. Mr E. Quinn spoke on the. value of the club movement to its members. Because of, 5 a lack of experienced debaters it was resolved to abandon the idea of a debating contest with the Waitakaruru* club. A most interesting address wa»4 given by Mr Hicks of Turua on hie; recent trip abroad, covering visits to J England, India, North Africa and, Europe. He expressed the view that, the land of the Hauraki Plains corn*pared favourably with the very best land he had seen anywhere else. At the April meeting following the.' report on the success of the club’s; stall at the flower show it was re-" solved to write letters of appreciation to those who had assisted and to make a small donation to each of the organs isations which sponsored the flower, show. The meeting further decided to-make a further donation of £5 to. war memorial fund and to purchase a wreath for presentation at the memoration service on Anzac Day. Patetonga-Kaihere:— At the February meeting of the Patetonga-Kaihere club Mr G. man gave a very interesting and in- ’ structive talk on the various methods of soldering different ihetals. There were, he said, three cardinal rules, which had to be remembered. .The first was to clean the metal well. The , second was the tinning of the iron and lastly the iron must not be over heated. At the April meeting a committee was set up to arrange a programme for the raising of money for the war memorial fund. A team was picked to take part in a contest and two new members werfe enrolled. Hikutaia: — There was a most excellent attend- . ance at the April meeting of the Hikutaia club, 27 members being present* The chairman gave a full report on; the sports meeting which had proved*.; a great success. Arrangements made for the holding of the annuals ball. ’
