MASTERS’ HUNT

ANNUAL MEET HELD MANY VISITORS ATTEND I FOLLOWING AT MARAMARUA During last week Mr A. C. Fiest, master of the Maramarua hounds, and Mrs Feist, entertained members at the annual masters’ hunt, which took place over his property in Kopuku. There was an excellent following for a weekday hunt and spectators were present from Auckland, Paeroa, Waeranga, Plains.

Prominent among these were seen: Messrs V. Young (deputy-master, Paeroa), E. Fathers (Paeroa), B. Mulhern (Waihi), S. Symes (Pokeno), A. Henderson (Plains), C. Symes (Auckland) and M. Maher. Weather conditions were ideal, light rain and no wind being splendid for the scent.

The hounds when thrown off picked up the scent immediately and were soon off on a merry chase along ridges and down through scrub covered gullies, where riders could not follow, then into the open again for about three miles before the quarry escaped into barred country. In a matter of moments the hounds gave tongue again and away went the field in close pursuit, but although a kill seemed certain, the bare proved too quick and ran to cover. Several more hares were put up but always so near to cover that no runs were possible.

A lavish breakfast and afternoon tea was served by Mrs Feist and her three daughters, assisted by several ladies of the Maramarua ward. At the conclusion of the day Messrs V. Young and E. Fathers both expressed the thanks of all present and congratulated Mr and Mrs Feist on their successful hunt. Both paid tribute to the great hospitality extended by their host and hostess. Mr Feist suitably replied.
