WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING HELD MANY ATTEND AT PIPIROA The monthly meeting of the Pipiroa Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday, April 26, Mrs Scott presiding over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the ode and aspirations'. The motto “True glopy lias in the silent conquest or ourselves,” was given by Mrs Keane. Mrs Laing was welcomed into the institute by the president and Mrs Burgess received a birthday spray. A vote of thanks was extended to Mr and Mrs McAulay, who so generously allowed the use of their home and grounds for the garden party. The president thanked members for their loyal support in helping to make the garden party the success it was,, the result being £29/10/6 and with only 5/- expenses. The institute funds were considerably swelled and the year’s commitments could now be met without further call on members. It was decided to make a two day trip to Rotorua and Mangakino in the near future, the necessary arrangements to be left in the hands of the secretary. It was hoped Mrs Curry would attend the school of drama sponsored’ by “The Regional Council of Adult Education” in May.

■Mrs Keane presented the council meeting report in lieu of Mrs Dalgety, who, through illness was unable to attend the monthly meeting. Mrs Keane was accorded a vote of thanks. The secretary was instructed to contact the badminton club and the school committee relative to the calling of a public meeting to deal with hall matters.

A pleasing interlude was the presentation of the good service badge to Mrs Keane. Mrs Scott said it was her pleasure to present the badge to Mrs Keane, she being president when Mrs Keane undertook the duties of secretary six years ago. Mrs Keane in reply said how much she appreciated the honour bestowed on her by her institute. Mrs Keane was accorded musical honours.

The meeting closed with the national anthem.
