HOLD RESPONSIBLE

SHOULD FIRE OCCUR HOSPITAL CHIMNEY DOWN “We understand that part of the chimney from the boiler room of Thames hospital has blown down and that, as a result, sparks from the chimney are flying out endangering St. George’s church in Mackay street, of which we are the insurers,” wrote the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society to the February meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. Should any fire occur as a result of the chimney .being used in its dangerous condition the board would be held responsible fox any damage thus caused, concluded the letter.

The secretary, Mr A. L. Neighbour, advised members of the board that he had placed the matter before the department and had urged early ministerial approval of the necessary work which had to be done to remedy the position. The reply from the department was awaited.
