AT HOME DAY
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MANY ATTEND AT NETHERTON
A good number of visitors and members of the Netherton Women’s Institute were present at an at Home day held in the Netherton hall. Just as the children enjoyed the Christmas party the grown up members enjoyed their party which opened the year’s first meeting.
A short business meeting was held, after which games were entered into in a very keen spirit, the winners being Mrs Roy Morrison and Mrs R. Smith. Luncheon was then partaken of and a friendly chat followed around the table. 1
The sales table did good business the winners of the competitions being Mesdames Bancroft and Saunders, Diana Wilkins and Maurine Locke. Floral tributes and best wishes were extended to Mrs Scott, of Pipiroa, Mrs Morrison, of Wharepoa, Mrs Saunders, of Paeroa, and Mrs Mace, of Tirohia.
Mrs Scott then presented Mrs Jean Ryall with the Women’s Institute cup for the aggregate for the year and in reply Mrs Ryall impressed on members that they would have to work hard to get their name engraved on it. Miss Margaret Gray, of Invercargill, entertained with two vocal solos, Mrs Homer winning the competition. Mrs Skinner then sang “In My Garden” and “Sunshine of Your Smile.” Another competition was won by Mesdames G. Sarjant and H. Wilson, after which Mrs C. Heslop and Mrs C. Townshend sang two duets.
Miss Margaret Gray won the intelligence test and by special request was asked to sing again. That brought a happy day to a close and the ThamesHauraki Plains District Federation of Women’s Institutes will benefit iby the takings of the stall.
