BOROUGH COUNCIL’S REPLY
PAEROA’S POOR LIGHTING
“The council is quite satisfied that your previous correspondence has not been misunderstood and council members are surprised that the matter is still allowed to remain open,” wrote the Paeroa Town Clerk, Mr M. C. Baker, to the February meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce when replying to a communication from the chamber relative to the main street lighting in Paeroa. f
Mr Baker went on to state that the council again expressed its willingness to cq-operate with the chamber but that it was not possible to alter the previous decision. * “The chamber has not asked for re-introduction of community lighting nor did it ask for increased lighting,” said Mr J. H. Bartlett, the secretary of the chamber.
The chairman, Mr A. C. Boulton, said that it wa« quite correct that increased lighting had not been asked for. What was requested was better use of the electrical power available. The street lights were not put on until 8 p.m., said Mr Boulton. It was unfortunate that no further progress could he made, the people would have to put up with the very poor lighting in the main street of Paeroa.
