GROUP CALF CLUB
MEETING IN PAEROA
ALTERED SHOW DATE DIFFICULTIES DISCUSSED f A most representative meeting of delegates to the Hauraki Group Calf Club together with the president, secretary and members of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Paeroa Borough Councul chambers on Monday. February 27. The chairman, Mr D. G. McMillan, outlined the purpose of meeting which was to discuss a proposal from the Netherton club that the championship show be held on a day other than that of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show. Mr Bennett, of Netherton, mentioned the difficulties of members trans- 1 porting calves to the show and also the lack of space attending the staging of the calf club show on the same day as the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Show.
Mr C. Townshend, president xrf the Hauraki Agricultural and, Plastdnal Association welcomed the opportunity of discussing the difficulties attending the meeting. Before giving his opinion he wished to pay tribute to the former president, Mr B. E. Veale, for his untiring energy and support for the movement since its inception. He then proposed that the calf club championships be held on the day before the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show. Messrs H. G. McGowan and Hinton supported the presidenVs suggestion and paid tribute to the co-operation of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association in its provision of trophies, prize money and organisation.
Other matters were discussed by members. The show secretary, Mr Edwin Edwards, also gave much useful information to the delegatee.
Mr McKenzie proposed that the calf club championship be held on the Friday previous to the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show and that the show be under the association’s auspices. Mr E. C. Mangan seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. As there were members from outlying districts it was suggested that any who had not the opportunity to attend regularly the group committee’s meetings and who may have difficulties facing their own local clubs, should bring such matters forward. The points in to calf rearing section were discussed. It was decided tot to annual meeting be held this year in mid-June at Kerepehi.
