TO BID GOOD-BYE
HIKUTAIA AFTERNOON MRS M. HANLEN FAREWELLED Mrs C. Hopping entertained, recently at her home, Robinson’s road, Hikutaia, a small number of guests to say farewell to Mrs M. Hanlen of Hikutaia who was leaving the district during the following week. Mrs Hanlen will make her future home in Remuera, Auckland. The guests were relatives, friends and close neighbours of Mrs Hanlen and all spent a very pleasant afternoon. Afternoon tea was served in the large living room which looked charming with its many bowls of colourful spring flowers. During the afternoon Mrs €• Murdock, on behalf of those present, said how sorry they all were that Mrs Hanlen was leaving, particularly as it was due to the ill health of her husband and they all hoped he would soon be restored to health. During her 12 years’ residence in Hikutaia, said Mrs Murdock, Mrs Hanlen had always been a bright and helpful friend and neighbour to all who knew her, and they wished her every happiness and success in her new home. Mrs Murdock then asked Mrs H. Robinson, who had been a friend Of Mrs Hanlen since childhood, to present her with a small token of their esteem. In presenting Mrs Hanlen with a box of silver teaspoons Mrs Robinson added her good wishes and hoped she would remember them all in Hikutaia. Mrs C. Hopping presented Mrs Hanlen with a lovely shoulder spray of carnations, banksia roses and asparagus fern. One of the guests, Mrs N. Forder of Te Aroha, a relation of Mrs Hanlen, and who had lived for many years in Hikutaia, also received a shoulder spray from Mrs Hopping, who said how nice it was to see her among them all again, if only for a visit Mrs Hanlen thanked everyone for their kind wishes and lovely present and flowers. She would always treasure them, and hoped to have the pleasure of using them when any of those present visited her in her new home. Mrs Hanlen expressed regret at leaving Hikutaia but she said perhaps one day she would be back with them all again. Just before the guests departed Mrs Murdock on their behalf thanked Mrs Hopping for having given them the opportunity of saying good-bye to Mrs Hanlen.
