SCHOOL SPORTS

BIG DAY AT NGATEA VERY SUCCESSFUL DAY EXHIBITION HIGH JUMP The annual sports -days and parents’ day was held at the Ngatea District High School on Tuesday, December 13. A large number of parents attended to view the children’s work, displayed in the various classrooms.

During the morning,' Father Christmas paid » visit to the infants, arriving on a steed befitting his proportions. Every child in the infant department received » present and enjoyed the party that followed.

A full programme of sports was carried out. The house competition resulted in a win for Aotea 2071 points against Arawa 1671. During a break in the programme, Ray McKenzie, New Zealand high jump champion, and Graham Jeffries, New Zealand junior high jump champion, both old pupils of the schoql, gave a demonstration of different styles of jumping. At the conclusion of the programme, the headmaster, Mr H. R. Hill, thanked all those who had assisted in making the day a success, and the chairman of the school committee, Mr H. Hayward, presented prizes and trophies as follows: Inter-house Cup, Aotea House; Phillips Brothers Cup for secondary mixed relay, Arawa House; endorsed School Certificates, J. H. Connor, E. H. Grbic; certificates won at the Waikato secondary schools sports, junior relay team (first), C. Carr, N. Fox, J. Schuler, V. Grbic; junior 220 yards, C. Carr 2; Old Boys’ Cup, R.
