KERBSIDE PUMPS

BELMOND ROAD PROBLEM FUELLING OF TRUCKS DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL

At the August meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council the matter of the removal of petrol pumps on the kerbing in Belmont road came under general discussion.

The deputy-mayor, Mr J. H. Walmsley, thought that it would not be right to ask only some of those business people who had kerbside pumps to remove them. If the council proposed to deal with the matter then all with kerbside petrol pumps should be dealt with.

Cr. E. W. Lee said he thought that councillors had in mind the elimination of the servicing of their own trucks on the main street by the business people. It was the large lorries which caused the congestion. All that was required was the installation of pumps at the rear of premises so that the trucks could be there fuelled. In view of the fact that firms had the intention of installing pumps at the rear of their premises for the purpose of servicing their own trucks a resolution was carried that the traffic inspector be authorised to discuss the matter with the firms in question.
