POWER BOARDS

TRANSFER OF AREA OUT OF TAURANGA TO THAMES VALLEY Al] that portion of the Ohinemuri county included in the Tauranga electric-power district is about to be transferred to the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board district and correspondence relative to the proposal was placed before the August meeting of the latter power board. The proposed transfer of the area in question had beert desired by both the boards for some considerable time and proper plans had been prepared

at the request of the State HydroElectric Department and forwarded for the approval of that department. Unfortunately the plans had been lost whilst in the care of the department. The matter was brought a stage further towards completion when the following letter from the ElectricPower Boards and Supply Authorities Association of New Zealand, Wellington, was received by the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board. “ All trace of the plans has been lost. Mr Rockell of the State HydroElectric Department has instituted a search throughout all the departments without success but he does advise me that his department does not require the plans you originally sent to him but requires only a plan of the small area being transferred from the Tauranga power board area to your own.”

“ The Local Government Commission has advised its requirements before it will approve of the boundary alteration being made in accordance with Section 6 of the Electric-Power Boards Act, 1925.” The Commission requires: (1) The proposal be advertised in the newspapers circulating in the district inviting objections by a specified date. (2) Certified copies of the resolutions of both boards, under seals of the boards, be forwarded to the Commission. (3) Certified copies of the newspapers, together with any objections received to the proposed alteration, be forwarded to the Commission.

In accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Commission a resolution was passed that the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board was prepared to accept the transfer to itself of the area in question.
