CUPS PRESENTED
RAILWAY TENNIS CLUB
FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA
The presentation of the cups won * by members of the Paeroa Railway « Tennis Club took place at the monthly dance of the club held in the Civic I hall recently. The hall and the stage % were attractively decorated with U ferns and streamers of blue and gold, ! the colours of the club. 1 Mr V. Turner acted as master of ceremonies. Music was supplied ’by Len Vercoe and his Symphony Five. ■ Extras were played by Miss L. Snodgrass of the Waikino club, accompan- * ied by Mr C. Castles on the drums. ’ Monte Carlos were won by Miss D.. Handley and Mr A. Alley and by Miss j V. Martin and Mr S. Locke. A spot waltz was won by Miss J. Midwood ■ and Mr L. Pope. J Mr H. N. Cook, president of the ; club, on behalf of the committee, ex- q pressed its thanks to all the willing workers and to the public for the sup- ? port which had been given to make J the dances such a success and enable " the club to obtain the necessary funds " for the new courts. ! Mr Cook then presented the various i cups which had been won during the season. The winners were as fol- ( lows: Ladies’ championship (Rolton Cup) and ladies’ handicap (Morrison 1 Cup), Miss L. Gillespie; men’s handi- ,■ cap (Morrison Cup), Mr M. Kemp.
The Davies Cup for the men’s championship and the Mrs C. M. Wilkinson Memorial Cup were unfortunately not available for presentation to Mr and Mrs H. R. Calland the respective winners. Mr M. Kemp was presented by the club captain, Mrs E. Dunn, with a fountain pen for being the most improved player of the season.
