ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

INCIDENT AT HIKUTAIA FARMER CHARGED IN COURT Charged with attempting to com- : mit suicide on April 19 last, George Hiro, aged 34, a farmer of Omahu, was ordered to come up for sentence, if ealled upon, by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Thames Magistrate’s Court. Sergeant «. W. Baylis said Hira had a good deal of worry before the -date mentioned and had lost 30-odd -cattle on the farm where he was sharemilking. While at a wedding party at Hikutaia he became very morose, and borrowed a rifle from one <rf the guests. After writing some letters he discharged a shot into his chest. He was a patient in the Thames Hospital for a considerable time. He had an excellent character.
