CHECK MADE
LIGHTS ON CYCLES OFFENDERS’ NAMES RECORDED A check on cycles without lights in the borough of Paeroa was made last month by the traffic inspector, Mr D. T. Somerville. On one occasion the names and addresses of 16 offenders were recorded. “In actual fact it is cheaper and much more pleasant if the cyclists were to buy lights, as they arb easily obtained today, rather than if I have to prosecut* the offenders for riding without lights,” stated Mr Somerville in his report to the March meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. “ However, I intend to reduce the number of cyclists who ride at night without lights to a very small minority before the winter months set in. I surely hope the parents of young offenders will give their co-operation so as to keep the borough free of accidents of this nature. “It is pleasing to note that there is 9 marked improvement with regard to cyclists riding more than two ,abreast. I have noted only isolated cases,” the report continued.
