A. DAVISON IN FORM

GOOD CENTURY SCORED A match in the second round of the knock-out competition of the Paeroa Cricket Club was played on the Paeroa domain on Saturday between High School and United. High School at the end of play were six runs ahead of United’s total thus making them the victors on the day. High School batted first. In the second over E. Bartley was dismissed without scoring and High School were down one wicket for no runs, Bartley being caught at point off Nicol. In his fourth over Nicol again trapped the batsman and High School were down two for 17. It was at this stage that C. Speechlay joined J. Jensen, who was batting carefully, and in twenty minutes Speechlay had reached his 50. In one over he was recorded to have scored 23 runs. Speechlay’s score of 71 was the helping hand High School needed and the remaining batsmen went for every possible run. High School’s innings closed with a total score of 219. United bowling honours were fairly evenly divided between .Nicol, May and Roberts. United opened with W. Faber and R. S. Nicol, and were one down for eight when Nicol was then joined by A. Davison, who severely punished any short balls, sending them swiftly to the leg boundary. Nicol was batting carefully picking which balls to hit, when he unfortunately tripped whilst running between the wickets and was run out with his score at 36. A. Davison was from then on parti nered by the remaining batsmen who i scored erratically though this did not. deter Davison. He continued to gather runs and was not long in reaching his century. When time was called Davison was undefeated for | 102. Whilst fielding Davison received a blow in the mouth from a ball which shot off the shoulder of Speechlay’s bat. He was attended by a doctor and received two stitches in his upper lip. Full credit is due to this batsman for his fine display of batting.
