SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPETITION IN PAEROA RON MAY IN GOOD FORM The annual swimming sports of the secondary department of the Paeroa District High School were held in the Paeroa Baths on March 3 w’hen racing and diving cups w r ere competed for by a large number of children.
Ron May acquitted himself well by winning both the Preston and the Craig cups while Aroha Treanor won the girls’ championship cup. In the diving, Yvonne Hunter won the girls’ cup and Gavin Finch the boys’ cup.
The officials for the day were: Starter, Mr R. Greenslade, marshal, Mr W. H. Fleming, timekeeper, Mr A. E. Kinsella, recorder, Mrs G. Fulton, judges, Mr Kinsella Mr J. Jensen and Mrs Fulton, judge of diving, Mr L. Turnbull. Results were as follow: —
Preston cup, breastroke, 33 1-3 yards: R. May 1, P. Ganley 2, Gillespie 3, time 32 secs.
Girls’ championship cup, 66 2-3 yards: A. Treanor 1, Y. Hunter 2, A. Meyer 3, time 51 1-5 secs. Junior girls’ championship, 33 1-3 yards: L. Stuart 1, E. Bancroft 2, R. Shaw 3, time 24 4-5 secs. Junior boys’ championship, 33 1-3 yards: R. Masters 1, N. Bedford 2, E. Te Moananui 3, time 23 1-5 secs.
Preston cup, 50 yards: E. Bancroft 1, R. May 2, G. Finch 3, time 33 1-5 secs.
Preston and Craig cups, 100 yards: R. May 1, E. Bancroft 2, G. Finch 3, time 1 min. 19 3-5 secs.
