Motion of Sympathy Sympathy in the recent death of his wife was expressed to Mr E. J. McLoughlin at the February meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. The late Mrs McLoughlin was spoken of very highly by Mr J. W. Danby, chairman, who said that she had won the respect of both Maori and pakeha alike. Members of the board showed their respect by standing for a moment’s silence. Siren in Paeroa The sound of a siren in Paeroa, just after dusk on Thursday night, disturbed a member of the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brjgade who was working in his garden. Hurriedly rushing inside' his house, he threw bn his coat, jumped on his bicycle and pedalled to the fire station to be told, when he arrived, that the siren which he had heard, was merely that of the traffic inspector who had been seeking to stop a traffic offender in Belmont road. Big Meeting Anticipated Close on 600 entries have been received for the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’s annual open meeting to be held on the Paeroa domain on Saturday, March 5. The total of 600 entries at present to hand excludes entries from the Hamilton club, which is one •of the strongest competing.
