West’s display was far from exciting on Saturday, but they seem to have some very good material and should develop into a very strong club team. Brian Neale’s innings left much to be desired and he was fortunate in staying so long at the wicket. He is still using a most unusual stroke in playing the rising ball on the off and would be well advised to forget it. Ivan Kurtovich shaped very well and shows good prospects. He is very good in the field and should make a good change bowler. Alan Davison shaped well behind the wickets and also handled his bat quite capably. Max Millar started the season in great style and included the hat trick in his bag of wickets. This bowler shows plenty of promise and with experience should be capable of causing a lot of trouble for local batsmen. Stewart Downie showed fine form behind the stumps for Railway and looks like a prospective representative player. He ia also quite a useful batsman when he settles down. Doug. Scott played a very solid innings against Railway and was largely responsible for High School’s narrow victory. This lad has a great heart and should have a good future in club cricket. A certain player was heard grumbling about an umpire’s decision on Saturday. Men in senior cricket should not act like petulant schoolchildren when a decision is given against them or their side, but accept the decision in a sporting manner and remember that not all men are perfect.
