erection of gate TIROHIA MEETING-HOUSE “I see by the Press that you have granted the natives of i Tirohia permission to erect a gate on a road at Tirohia. l am sorry to say that I must object to this gate as I own the land in question and would be pleased if you would have same removed,” stated a letter to the Ohinemuri County Council from Mr C. G. Jackson of Tirohia. Mr Jackson was referring to a gate which the Ngati Hako Tribal Committee wished to erect across the road leading to the Tirohia meeting-house to protect from traffic the ground to which they had recently made improvements. At the July meeting o/ the council no objection had been raised to the request of the secretary of thy tribal committee to erect such < grt«. The county engineer, Mr E. L. Shaw, stated at the August meeting that the natives were doing a good job of work on the land around the meeting-house. He suggested that the chairman and* himself moot Mr Jackson and the Maoris and discuss the matter. Cr. S. H. Thompson moved in that direction and Cr. A. F. Thorp seconded the motion.
