King’s Birthday Observance There will be no issue of the Hauraki Plains Gazette on Monday, June 7, King’s Birthday observance. Increased Allowance At the June meeting of the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board it was resolved that the travelling allowance for members using their own cars be increased from 6d to 8d per mile. Valley Power Board Those present at the June meeting of the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board were Messrs F. Mayn (chairman), P. O. Downes, A. E. Wrigley, O. W. Marks, E. Jamieson, J. Pohien, W. S. Goosman, T. A. Barrett, C. C. Webb, W. A. Rushton, the manager, Mr R. Sprague, and the chief engineer, Mr N. G. McLeod. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. L. Boughton and A. H. Coombes. Intoxicated Wasps “ You can do anything with them,” said one member of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce when to wasps which were often found inside apples in a stupefied state. Apparently the juice of the apples fermented, making a kind of apple cider and when the wasps had drunk their fill they had not even the sense to sting when they were disturbed. As one member put it, “It just shows you, whether they are human beings or whatever they are, they still like to get stinko.”
