SERVICE AT HIKUTAIA
PARCELS AND MAIL AUTHORITY GRANTS LICENSE An application for a transport license to allow him to carry mails and parcels in the Hikutaia-Omahu-Wharepoa area was made by C. Elliot, of Hikutaia, to the No. 1 Licensing Authority, Mr E. J. Phelan, at the sitting of the Authority in Thames. The license, enabling him to carry parcels up to 561 b, was granted. The applicant stated that he was carrying mails under a temporary license, and that there were about 150 houses in his district. Those on the rural mail delivery numbered about 100 and they were increasing.
There had been many requests for a parcel delivery, he said. The cream ■cartage in the district covered a small area and no opposition had been raised by them. Mr G. Henwood, a farmer and a Thames County councillor, supported the application and said he considered that a parcel-carrying service would be a very great convenience to the district.
