CHORAL SOCIETY
PLANS FOR COMING YEAR
MORE MEMBERS WANTED On Thursday night the committee of the Paeroa Choral Society met to plan its activities for the coming year. It was decided to hold three concerts throughout the year. The first will have as its subject “The Song of the British Isles.” Typical selections embracing the national airs of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Isles of Man and the Hebrides will be presented.
The society wishes its activities to be brought before the citizens of Paeroa and the surrounding districts and is on the look-out for new talent, both young and old, to swell its ranks. Singing is one of the fine arts and inexpressive of all cultured peoples. A town the size of Paeroa should possess a very fine choir. When the Broadcasting Service’s Mobile Unit visited this area recently it was on the look-out for choirs for its recordings. The Paeroa choir rendered some numbers and it is hoped that these will be heard from IYA on a Thursday night broadcast ere long.
It is hoped that all who can sing or who would like to sing but do not will come along and join in this choir. It is planned to hold a half-hour of training exercises on tone production, note and time values, and the art of expression, at the commencement of every Thursday night practice. All young singers who are not acquainted
with music will be thus encouraged to participate in what will always be a useful and interesting accomplishment.
