NO WATER
SETTLERS COMPLAIN SUPPLY IN OHINEMURI LETTER TO THAMES COUNTY That urgent complaints were received from settlers in the Kaimanawa area that they were getting practically no water for their farms was advised the Thames County Council at its March meeting by the Ohinemuri County Council. “ The chief contributing factor to this is that the pressure in the main from your county at the boundary has considerably decreased from what it was when the scheme was first installed, or even a few years back,” said the letter. “Your council must 'admit that this is the case. “In view of this and to improve the supply, my council will be pleased if your council will grant permission to extend the main from the boundary bridge on the Paeroa-Thames State highway to the property owned by Messrs J. H. and F. W. Walters. This is a distance of 54 chains and it is intended to make the extension with a 11 inch to 1 inch pipe.” The chairman, Cr. D. Courtney, said what he did not like was the reference to the chief contributing factor. He did not admit this at all.
The clerk, Mr J. F. Eames, said an agreement should have been drawn up between the two bodies ,about the use of the supply.
Opinions were also expressed that the supply to Thames county settlers could not be jeopardised. The matter was left to the chairman and riding members with power to act.
