TENNIS MATCH
H. WILLIAMS SHIELD TURUA BEATS HIKUTAIA In a challenge match between Turua and Hikutaia for the Howell Williams Shield on Saturday last, the Hikutaia tennis team was beaten by 10 games to three. The games were played at the Hikutaia courts in excellent weather and most of the games were keenly contested, but the holders of the shield, Hikutaia, in most cases showed lack of practice. It was the first time since the beginning of the recent war that the shield has been played for. The results of games are as follows, with Turua names mentioned first: — Men’s singles: T. Prowse 9, beat A. Alley 5; R. Harrison 8, lost to G. Alley 9; R. Madgwick 4, lost to T. Dunwoodie 9; D. Law 9, beat V. Alley 4. Women’s singles: Mrs Harrison 7, beat Mrs Morrison 0; Miss Murray 7, beat Mrs Alley 2. Men’s doubles: Prowse and Harrisori 6, lost to A. Alley and T. Dunwoodie 9; Madgwick and Law 9, beat G. and V. Alley 7; McMillan and Troughton 9, beat I. Morrison and T. Brocket 3. Women’s doubles: Mrs Harrison and Miss Murray 7, beat Mrs Morrison and Miss Gibb 2; Mrs Robertson and Mrs Madgwick 7, beat Mrs Alley and Mrs Murdock 3. Combined doubles: Mrs Robertson and McMillan 7, beat Miss Gibb and T. Brocket 5; Mrs Madgwick and Troughton 7, beat Mrs Murdock and I. Morrison 6.
