ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

(To the Editor) Sir, —In answer to your correspondence headed “ St. John Ambulance, I would like to congratulate the St. John Brigade on the wonderful efforts which they have so far achieved. We all know that they have received very little support whatsoever from the business people and various sports bodies around this area. Now I would also like to clarify the position as regards the Pa'eroa Chamber of Commerce. We as a body are one hundred per cent, behind getting an ambulance in Paeroa and I am sorry a wrong impression has been gained.. Mr Lee is president of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce and approached the secretary of the Thames Hospital Board not as a delegate from the chamber but merely• seeking any information he could get to help us acquire an ambulance for Paeroa. In fact the information he asked for was the approximate price of one so as to give us a lead at our meeting. Now as regards “ Some other time,’* probably this may be correct; but if I remember .rightly, this invitation was made in the middle of our monthly meeting approximately nine o’clock at night and it was not practicable to stop our meeting and then resume at a later hour. Some three months ago at our meeting I offered £5 to start off a subscription from the business men of Paeroa and I think if every businessman made the same offer we would easily have enough cash to purchase an ambulance for Paeroa. However, I will say, “ Good luck St. John,” we are one hundred per cent, behind you. Give us the O.K. and we will do the pushing.—l am, etc., BEN GWILLIAM Jnr., Vice-President, Paeroa Chambei* of Commerce.
