MEMBER RETIRING

VALLEY POWER BOARD MR H. M. CORBETT’S DECISION It was with great regret that he had learned that Mr Corbett was severing his connection with the Thames Valley Power Board, said the chairman, Mr J. F. Mayn, at the September meeting of the board when informing members that Mr H. M. Corbett would be absent from the next two meetings before the elections and would not stand again for a position on the board. The loss of Mr Corbett’s services, he continued, would be one to both the board and consumers. He was a high type of local body representative, one who rarely spoke unless it was to the point, and consequently one who did not take up the time of a meeting unnecessarily. The board was very sorry indeed to know that Mr Corbett was leaving it, and extended its good wishes to him. “ I have been a member of this board for many years and have seen members come and go,” said Mr Corbett, “ so I think the consumers will have no difficulty in finding someone to fill my place. I have always been deeply interested in the board s work and particularly in discussions at the table. Members come from such a wide area that a broad view is taken of every question. and the meetings have been to me of great educational value.” When he had accepted the position as chairman of the Hauraki Catchment Board, continued Mr Corbett, he had decided to withdraw from other local bodies, considering that position a full-time one in the early formation period of the 'board. It looked as fjhough the power board had got over its most difficult period and that in the future a certain amount of improvement could be expected. Mr Corbett thanked the chairman and members for their good wishes, and hoped that he would see them all returned to the ■board after the elections in November.
