RESERVING OPPOSED

MR P. D. SEARS’ VIEWS GRASS IF POSSIBLE FAVOURED The view that it was not sound economy to prevent tree felling in all cases on the grounds of erosion was expressed by Mr P. D. Sears at the September meeting of the Hauraki Catchment Board. A letter was received by the meeting asking that an area be reserved and it was suggested by Mr J. Pohlen that the board apply to the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council to have the area .taken over as a reserve. Mr Sears opposed that suggestion. Mr Sears said that unless the ground was too steep it could be felled and grass would hold the soil. The meeting decided to inspect the area to ascertain whether grassing would be practicable.
