GROUND CONDITIONS HEAVY

The Hauraki Plains Ladies’ .Hockey Association was successful in beating the Waikato ladies’ representative hockey teanfs in the games played at Ngatea on Saturday. The groufid was heavy, and the final scores were low. Hauraki Plains A team won with three points to nil, and in the first game Plains won with three points to two.

The Waikato B and Hauraki Plains B match was fairly even with little spectacular hockey. Both teams fielded several young players. The first score came from a good run on the left wing by V. Fisher, who sent on to M. Crawford to score. Later from a melee in front of the goal the ball came out to M. Crawford who scored again with a good shot. Waikato attacked hard but good defence by Hauraki Plains backs, P. Hayward and W. Gordon, kept ..them out. M. Leach worked well in the halves. Shortly after this Plains broke away again and a good centre resulted in V. Fisher scoring with a neat angle shot.

After this Waikato gradually took . charge and scored two goals in quick succession, and was still attacking on the call of time. The final score was: . Hauraki Plains B 3, Waikato B 2. “A” Grade Match The Waikato A and Hauraki Plains A match, with more experienced players, produced better hockey. Hau- i raki attacked first and play ranged up and down the field. From a left wing- > attack M. Rawson passed to M. McLean, who scored after a scramble in the goa|l mouth. Good Waikato attacks by the fast winger, S. Lymburn, were repelled by the Hauraki Plains full back, M. Aut■ridge, who was not troubled by the conditions and who cleared' with powerful long shots. Plains attacked again and Waikato conceded several corners. From one of these Waikato was a bit slow getting out and M. McLean scored with a nice hai'd shot. Hauraki' Plains forwards initiated several good attacks and was veil.. backed up by the halves. N. Constantine worked well at centre forward but was well watched by Waikato centre half, B- Stevens. After a melee in the circle N. Con- , stantine was able to pass l to M. McLean who was in a good position’ and made nd mistake to make the score. 3—nil.

After this Waikato attacked hard but Hauraki Plains’ defence held, full back apd halves backing each other up well. Time was called with the score: Hauraki Plains 3, Waikato nil. Messrs A. Flay and- H. Olesen were umpires.
