SCHOOL COMMITTEE
NGATEA DISTRICT HIGH
AUGUST MEETING HELD The Ngatea District High School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, August 11. Those present were: Messrs D. A. Waite (chairman), H. Dalgety, R. Williams,. W. Jones, H. Hayward, T. Sydenham, W. E. Cocks (secretary), and B. C. Miller (acting headmaster). The Auckland Education Board advised that only one tender had been received for the erection of a B type dental clinic at the school and the.board had recommended the Department of Education to authorise its acceptance-. The Auckland Education Board wrote stating that one of its officers would visit the school as soon as possible to investigate the matter of the lavatories. The board also stated that it was not in a position, to supply groundsman’s tools and the committee decided to purchase them out of com- ' mittee funds. The secretary reported that it was probable that a groundsman would shortly be available who resided within easy reach of the school. It having been reported that the two old wooden posts supporting the big gate at the main road entrance to the school drive, had rotted off, a request was sent to the .education board to supply two heavy concrete posts, capable of supporting the gate. It was decided to order half a ton of coal to maintain the heating systems of the school till the end of the cold weather.
The boys’ technical instructor having intimated that the woodwork centre was very much in need of an electric band-saw, it was decided to take steps toward procuring one. There were eight schools whose boys used the technical department.
