SCHOOL CONCERT

FUNDS RAISED FOR BOOKS MANGATARATA EVENING A concert was held recently in the Mangatarata school to raise funds for books, etc. Under the direction of the teacher, Mr McCroskie, with the able assistance of Mrs Armstrong, the concert was very pleasing. The programme was as follows: The national anthem; school children’s items, songs, “ Bobby Shafto,” “ The Keeper,” “ The Female Highwayman; choral work, “ Trade Winds,” “ Pirates ”; songs, “ Fox Cubs Beware,” “ Toobah Woobah John.” Small children’s items, songs, “ Silent Night,” “ White Christmas,” “ Jingle Bells,” Joy Cropp; “Paper Doll” Maxine Harwood; choral work, “ Soft Steps ”; group song, “ School Days ”; recitation, “ Mother,” Colleen Armstrong. Items at the interval by adults were: Recitation, Mrs Skinner; vocal duets, Mrs Flynn and Miss M. Flynn; solos, Mr McCroskie. The second half of the programme consisted of further items given by the children as follows: Negro songs, “Old Black Joe,” “0 Susanna,” “O Dem Golden Slippers tap dance, Jeanette MacPherson; “ Camptown Races,” featured very cleverly by Pater Danielsen, with Bobbie Armstrong as the horse; “ Beautiful Dreamer,” duet, Jeanette MacPherson and Colleen Armstrong; group song, “ Old Folks at Home ”; solo, “ Please Give Me a Penny, Sir,” Terence O’Brien.

Mr Leonard, chairman of the school committee, thanked Mr McCroskie and Mrs Armstrong for their efforts in producing such a successful concert.
